Oandu mill, your dream come true?

Oandu mill is just the right distance from Tallinn. Here, you’re out of the city and won’t have to make an idle trip into town, and the other party will understand that there’s no point in bothering you. If you need to, however, this hour+ is not counterproductive. It’s also a good soothing driving time. It’s a chance to organise your thoughts and tune in to a wave of enjoyment on the way to Oandus. On the way to work in Tallinn, you can start to make preparatory phone calls and put your plans in place.

Residential building

The building on the Veski property was built in the mid-19th century. It is a shed/roofed dwelling with a net floor area of about 160 m² and a layout of three floors.

Mill

Restored ruins with a lower part of the building, with a total building area of 327 m². The mill building was probably built in the first half of the 19th century. The restoration started in 2006.

Jõekääru

Undeveloped land parcel (cadastral code 88703:001:0314) area 3739 m², 100% residential land, landscaping is natural grassland and tall vegetation.

In the Oandu mill, it’s like you’re by the sea, but you’re not. You can’t see the sea and in the climate you don’t notice it. But it is 3,6 km to the sea. It’s a good walk to get your 10, 000 steps in. That walk will get you to Altja (you can sneak past the Copra trail on the way). Altja is a place you can read more about on Google. Anyway, there’s a tavern where you do a little bodysurfing, then walk past the boathouses, over the suspension bridge and you arrive at a private sandy beach. For a shorter and more interesting way back, you can hike straight through the woods with a compass and you’ll only have to walk 2.4 km.

Residential building

The building on the Veski property was built in the mid-19th century and renovation started in the 2000s. The main condition for the design was to preserve as many elements of the old building as possible. The result is a unique dwelling that harmoniously blends 19th century and 21st century elements. The whole project was very capital-intensive, but also a valuable investment in the future.

Major building works were carried out in 1999-2002, during which the roof, windows and doors were replaced. In addition, the foundation and external walls were insulated, the interior and exterior finishes were renewed and the technical systems were replaced. The building has a rectangular floor plan with a pitched or hipped roof and a net floor area of approximately 160 m². The layout is distributed over three floors.

The ground floor comprises an open-plan entrance/living room, cloakroom, kitchen and utility room. The attic has an entrance hall, toilet and three rooms. The basement has a fireplace room, laundry room, sauna room and utility room.

The foundation is natural stone. The load-bearing structures and external walls are made of limestone, with insulation and plaster paint. Wooden partitions.

Interior design is combined and versatile. Wooden floorboards in the rooms, tiled floors in the fireplace lounge, WC and sauna rooms. Limestone wall surfaces in living room, kitchen and fireplace room; plasterboard with paint or wood finishes in attic rooms; ceramic wall tiles in sauna washroom, wood finishes in bathroom.

Utility networks and systems. The home has security and fire alarms. Water supply comes from a shared borehole, hot water from an electric boiler. Electricity supply: 3 phases x 32 amps. The house is insulated by both electric and stove heating. Forced ventilation in the washrooms. The building’s technical and heating systems need to be modernised, including the boilers. Kitchen furniture with used appliances and sanitary ware is included. The property is available immediately.

If you are planning to do something that will last for centuries
take something that's centuries old.

The nearest shop is a 13-minute drive from Oandu Veski and it’s worth bringing a towel, because then you’re in Võsu and one of Estonia’s TOP10 beaches – Võsu beach is already the place to be: soft drinks, ice creams, lifeguards etc. Võsu is a place probably every Estonian knows. Who doesn’t know where 5 MIINUST comes from?

The larger town of Rakvere and the northern centre of the city are 28 minutes away. Anyone who drives around Tallinn will know that this is about the same time as from the city centre to the suburbs. Rakvere is important to mention because the Oandu mill is relatively remote, but within 28 minutes you have everything you need for a full life, including shops, spas, theatres, restaurants, museums, harbours, pump track, beaches, cinema. In any case, much more than you’d get bored of. And just in case you get bored and haven’t yet – buy a sailboat to the port of Vergi.

The general modern condition of the mill dam is in good working order, the dam has been preserved, and is managed by the municipality. The mill bridge and road are in good condition. The height of the weir is 3,4 m , overflow type: shaft flow. The mill dam lives in harmony with nature, with the possibility of waking up to the roar of the waterfall in winter and the roar of high water in spring.

A country home that is far from ordinary

In a crisis situation, where it is no longer safe to be in the city, Oandu is a very good refuge. The Oandu watermill is located far enough away from larger settlements. It is also away from major traffic routes. It is a place where people with evil intentions will not come. The mill building itself is also one of the safest buildings you could want. Over a metre thick, the limestone walls protect you and your family from any threats. A true security estate. Thick walls also protect you from global warming. Summers are getting warmer and sunnier. More and more people around us are starting to sniffle at the excess heat. Massive walls offer a nice cooling effect on hot days. It takes a while to heat them up in winter, but once they’re warm, they last a long time.
