It extracts heat from the outside air and transfers it to the house&#8217;s water-based heating system (underfloor heating or radiators).<\/p><p><b>Pros:<\/b><\/p><ul><li>Lower installation cost compared to ground source heating.<\/li><li>Does not need a large plot or excavation work<\/li><li>Very high efficiency in spring and autumn<\/li><\/ul><p><b>Cons:<\/b><\/p><ul><li>In severe sub-zero temperatures efficiency drops and the unit may need backup electric heating<\/li><li>The outdoor unit generates some noise and needs regular maintenance<\/li><\/ul><p><b>Effect on sale price<\/b> &#8211; Buyers value a B energy class rating highly, which an air-to-water system often makes achievable.
